Welcome to the
Charlotte Civic Orchestra's 2007/2008 season.
We have an incredible series of performances which will
display the artistry of our fine orchestra. This will be one of
the most exciting series of classical music this year in
Charlotte. Our first performance features Mahler's First
Symphony. This emotionally rewarding work is a 'tour de force'
for orchestra and in particular the horn section. Our holiday
concert will be in collaboration with Central Piedmont Community
College, the Firebird Alliance, and the new and exciting vocal
group VOX. We will be presenting a variety of works culminating
with the spectacular choral movement from Beethoven's Ninth
Symphony. For our first spring concert, you will find us at
Belmont Presbyterian Church, where we will feature the
magnificent sound of a massed choir from several area churches.
We are also proud to present our concertmaster, Alicia Eshleman,
in a performance of Vivaldi's "Spring" from "The Four Seasons"
on this concert. Our final subscription performance is one of
the most important events in Charlotte's music scene. We will
be showcasing newly composed works by several of the Carolina's
leading composers, as well as performing the winning piece from
the Charlotte Civic Orchestra's student composition contest.
The final work on this program is always one of the most
popular: This will be a work composed entirely by selected
Charlotte area middle school students and coordinated by one of
Charlotte's most popular composers, David Crowe.
I invite you to
experience your Civic: we are people in your
neighborhood overflowing with talent and passion for great
music.
See you soon!
