Take a tour of the Solar System with the Charlotte Civic Orchestra as we perform The Planets.

  • Gustav Holst ~ The Planets
  • Ron Parks ~ Pluto, Earth

The program includes the World Premiere of two companion pieces, Earth: the Sustainer of Life, and Pluto: Guardian of the Underworld, composed by Charlotte composer, Ronald Parks.

In Collaboration with the SouthPark Women’s Chorus, Charlotte Amateur Astronomers Club, and  The Schiele Museum of Natural History and James H Lynn Planetarium.

See The Sun

Members from the Charlotte Amateur Astronomers Club will show you the sun up close and in details. If weather permits, Charlotte Amateur Astronomers Club will have 2 types of solar telescope, allowing visitors to view our closest star safely and hopefully see some sun spots, flares and solar prominences. Please arrive in advance or stay afterwards for a viewing.

Tickets are available in advance or at the door of the event.

A Symphony and A Movie

Picture the rippling streams, blue sky, sunshine, and cool green shadows of Portschach, Austria in imagery portrayed by Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, D Major, Op. 73.
Then, sit back and have a nail biting laugh watching the classic silent film “Never Weaken” (starring Harold Lloyd) and hear the debut of its new music score written by local composer Dean Kluesner.
You’ll hum along to the theme from the Exodus Soundtrack as well.
